Statement
2025 was Safe Gigs for Women’s 10th birthday. Starting as a small project to support women to share their experiences of sexual assault and harassment at live music events, this year was our biggest ever, attending 30 events over this summer’s festival season. This has been a massive achievement for us and our volunteers to deliver.
However, it is with much to be proud of and with a lot of sadness we have decided that now is the right time to call it a day. It is time for us to pass the torch to others.
We started even before the #metoo movement and a lot has happened in the 10 years we’ve been active
- Sexual safety has a higher profile at festivals than ever
- Active bystander approaches have become much more well known and widespread
- This has always been an effort with other people and all our allies, and we are one of many groups aiming to work to reduce sexual violence and make festivals and live music safer and happier places for everyone
Safe Gigs for Women has been a grassroots, fully volunteer led and run organisation, and our brilliant volunteers have given vast amounts of time, energy and commitment to us for a long time. We would like to give our biggest thanks to everyone who has volunteered with us over the years; over 200 of you. We would particularly like to thank our senior volunteers, without whom Safe Gigs for Women would not have been possible.
We would also like to thank the festivals who have given us space over the years and opportunities to talk to tens of thousands of music fans, and festival safeguarding teams who provide such a vital, often unseen, role. We are ever grateful to all the bands, artists, managers, promoters and venues who’ve supported our work.
And finally to anyone and everyone who has supported us in any way, by stopping for a chat, through generous donations, by buying a t-shirt or a bag, or wearing a sticker. We will have fond memories forever of many conversations that made Gigs Safer. You all helped make people safer.
With all love and thanks to all,
Tracey, Mel, Sian and David,
Safe Gigs for Women Management
Team.
